The Three Islands You Cannot Skip
Port Blair is your base. Most tourists land here and treat it purely as transit. That is a mistake. Cellular Jail alone deserves half a day. The light and sound show in the evening is worth staying in Port Blair for an extra night.
Havelock Island (Swaraj Dweep) is the centerpiece of any Andaman trip. Radhanagar Beach consistently ranks among the best beaches in Asia. The water is the kind of blue that looks edited in photos but is real. Elephant Beach is where most water sports happen. If you are doing scuba for the first time, Havelock is the right place for it.
Neil Island (Shaheed Dweep) is quieter, slower, and genuinely beautiful. It is often skipped in short itineraries. Do not skip it. Laxmanpur Beach at sunset is one of those things you remember for years.
How Many Days Do You Actually Need
5 nights / 6 days is the minimum to cover all three islands without feeling rushed. Here is a straightforward split:
- Day 1: Arrive Port Blair, Cellular Jail evening show
- Day 2: Ross Island, North Bay, ferry to Havelock
- Day 3: Radhanagar Beach, Elephant Beach water sports
- Day 4: Ferry to Neil Island, Laxmanpur Beach
- Day 5: Neil Island exploration, ferry back to Port Blair
- Day 6: Baratang Limestone Caves or departure
7 nights / 8 days gives you proper breathing room and lets you add Baratang, North Andaman, or simply spend more time on Havelock without feeling like you are chasing a schedule.
Couples on honeymoon: budget at least 6 nights. You will not want to leave Havelock after one day.
Ferry Booking: Why This Is the Most Critical Part of Your Trip
Inter-island ferries in Andaman run on a fixed schedule. Seats sell out weeks in advance, especially from October to March. If your ferry is not pre-booked, your entire itinerary collapses.
The premium ferries (Makruzz, Nautika) are the ones worth taking. They are faster (2 to 3 hours versus 6 hours on the government ferry), air-conditioned, and significantly more comfortable. Prices start around Rs 1,400 to Rs 1,500 per person one way.

The tourist season in Andaman runs from October to March. The sea is calm, visibility for diving and snorkeling is at its best, and the weather is genuinely pleasant.
December and January are the peak of the peak. Packages for Christmas and New Year weeks are routinely full by September. If you are planning a December trip and reading this in November, availability is already tight.
Shoulder months (October, November, March) are actually ideal. You get the same weather, the same clear water, fewer crowds on the beaches, and slightly better pricing on packages and hotels.
